On Akshay Navami thousands of devotees undertake the demanding Yugal Parikrama — a single-day walk encircling both Mathura and Vrindavan — believing the merit earned today is 'akshay', never-ending. The roads fill from before dawn with barefoot pilgrims chanting the holy names as they trace the sacred geography of Krishna's birthplace and his childhood home in one continuous loop.
